Trim levels and styling

You have eight impressive trim levels to choose from with a 2022 Chevy Camaro, but that’s only part of the story as each of those trim levels, apart from the entry-level model, can be had in either coupe or convertible body styles. The first model in the 2022 Camaro lineup is the 1LS which is only available as a coupe. The next model in the lineup is the 1LT, and from there the range goes up to the 2LT, 3LT, LT1, 1SS, 2SS, and finally to the top-of-the-line ZL1. While some rivals have started to go down the route of offering all-wheel-drive versions, the Camaro has stayed true to its pony car roots with every version being exclusively rear-wheel-drive, which is exactly how it should be.

If you’re used to placing orders for full-size trucks, you’ll be delighted to find you have almost as much latitude when it comes to placing a factory order for a new Camaro. As well as those two body styles and eight different trim levels, there are also no fewer than four different powerplants to choose between. The first of the power quartet is a 2.0-litre turbo-four that’s standard in all models up to and including the 3LT. This engine certainly isn’t some sort of compromise either as it boasts an impressive 275 horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. Of course, a 3.6-litre V-6 is also available for those models which then gives the Camaro 335 horsepower and 284 lb.-ft. of torque to play with.

If you opt for a Camaro LT1, 1SS or 2SS you’ll find a 6.2-litre V-8 under the hood that puts out a very symmetrical 455 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque. But if you want the ultimate 2022 Chevy Camaro, the imperious ZL1 features a stunning 6.2-litre supercharged V-8 which then puts 650 horsepower and 650 lb.-ft. of torque at the mercy of your accelerator foot. The Camaro’s power gets sent exclusively to the rear wheels through either a six-speed manual, eight-speed automatic, or a 10-speed automatic transmission, depending on which engine you have.

Features and equipment

Part of the huge appeal of the Camaro is you can get into one for a very affordable starting MSRP, but even the most affordable versions come very well equipped and still deliver excellent performance as well as value. Standard 1LS features include a dual-outlet exhaust with bright tips, electronic parking brake, limited-slip rear differential, sport suspension, 18-inch alloy wheels, an 8-way power driver seat, climate control, rear vision camera, and the Chevrolet Infotainment 3 system with a 7.0-inch touchscreen and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.

From there you can have all manner of different comfort, technology, safety, and driver-assist features as you go up through the trim levels. The range-topping ZL1 comes with a standard Bose premium sound system, heated and ventilated front seats and heated steering wheel, Recaro front bucket seats, rear camera mirror, wireless device charging, and a head-up display.
