The Chevrolet Blazer is one of the most modern and stylish midsize crossover SUVs you can drive around Thornhill, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, or anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area. Even so, we’re already at that point with the reintroduced and reinvigorated nameplate when a mid-cycle refresh is due, and that’s what Chevy has delivered. The 2023 Chevrolet Blazer is a subtle refresh that does just enough to keep things fresh without trying anything too radical. All the best elements of the Blazer get retained for the new model year, so this is a subtle enhancement of an already exceptional offer.
Let’s be honest. If relative anonymity and staying under the radar are priorities for you, the Chevrolet Blazer probably might be the last vehicle you’ll consider. On the other hand, if you want one of the most contemporary and stylish designs anywhere in the current auto market that will make a big impression wherever you go, the new 2023 Chevrolet Blazer is definitely up for the job.
The sheet metal is relatively unchanged for the 2023 model year. Still, the new front fascia gets thinner and narrower LED headlights, slimmer LED running lights over the bowtie crossbar, and a wider honeycomb grille delivers a lower, broader face complemented by wide haunches on the sides. The taillights are also thinner and narrower this time around, and a blacked-out roof greets the rising window line at just the right point of the integrated roof spoiler to produce a fluid and sporty aesthetic.
It wouldn’t be right if the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer looked as sporty and aggressive as it does if it had a mundane, limp, and uninspiring powerplant under the hood. The good news is that neither of the available engines flirts with that description, not even the base 2.0-liter turbo-four that develops a very useful 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. The turbo-four is only available for the entry-level 2023 Blazer but in front-drive and rear-drive formats.
The second of the engine options is a 3.6-litre V-6, but this powerplant is exclusively paired with all-wheel drive, even when specified as an option for the entry-level Blazer LT. The V-6 puts out 308 horsepower and 270 lb.-ft. of torque, so it represents a significant power upgrade over the turbo-four. Both engines send power to the wheels through a standard nine-speed automatic transmission. The turbo-four allows the Blazer to tow up to 1,588 kg (3,500 pounds) with the available trailering package, while the V-6 increases that capacity to an impressive 2,041 kg (4,500 pounds).
It’s probably going a bit far to roll out the “With great power comes great responsibility” line here, but there is a decent amount of power available with the Blazer that justifies a strong emphasis on safety features. To that end, every Blazer comes equipped with the Chevrolet Safety Assist package as part of the standard specification. The package includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, Forward Collision Alert, and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.
All models also get a Tire Pressure Monitoring System and an HD Rear Vision Camera, while Adaptive Cruise Control is standard with RS and Premier trim levels and available for LT and True North. RS and Premier versions of the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer are also available with a Safety Plus Package. That includes Wireless Charging, HD Surround Vision, a Rear Camera Mirror, Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking, and Safety Alert Seat.
It’s easy to decide about the 2023 Chevrolet Blazer on looks alone, but that would be doing this superb midsize crossover SUV a great dis-service. There are many reasons to choose the all-new Blazer ahead of its rivals, which we’re confident you’ll discover when you come for a test drive with Roy Foss Chevrolet Buick GMC Thornhill here at 7200 Yonge Street, Thornhill, ON.
