It doesn’t matter how big the job you have to get done in Thornhill, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, or anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area, the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD is up for the challenge. The immense towing and hauling capability is what most of us think of first with these mighty pickup trucks, but they’re much more than a one-trick pony. They can be as utilitarian or as luxurious as you want them to be, and there are trim levels and specifications to suit almost countless applications and a broad spectrum of budgets.
There 2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD is a line of full-size, heavy-duty pickup trucks that will not be mistaken for a truck from any other brand. The imposing front fascia features futuristic headlights and driving lamps on either side of a massive razor-like grille and underneath a vast hood that will be at chin height for most people. The wheel wells are unashamedly squared-off from the side, and the high ground clearance provides extra capability while adding to the sense of scale.
The back of the 2023 Silverado HD appears largely conventional unless equipped with the Multi-Flex Tailgate, which is available for all models and features six different functions that make loading, unloading, and accessing the cargo bed easier than ever. You can’t fail to notice the jumbo-size buttons and knobs inside the cab that you can use without needing to remove those bulky work gloves. To suit different cargo and people-carrying requirements, the 2023 Silverado HD is available in regular, extended-, and crew-cab body styles and with standard and long beds.
Convention usually dictates that heavy-duty trucks feature a choice of two engines, a standard gas powerplant, and an optional diesel engine, and the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD doesn’t stray from that blueprint. The truck’s 2500 HD and 3500 HD versions offer the same standard and optional 6.6-litre V-8 engines. The standard engine is a gas-powered engine that develops 401 horsepower and 464 lb.-ft. of torque, and the optional unit is a turbodiesel with 450 horsepower and a gargantuan 910 lb.-ft. of torque.
You’d be correct if you imagine those power ratings would result in massive capability. When equipped with the 6.6-litre Duramax diesel engine, a properly configured 2500 HD can tow up to 9,072 kg and haul up to 3,480 kg. However, that’s nothing compared to a 3500 HD with the same engine and dual rear wheels, as that can tow up to 16,329 kg and haul up to 3,376 kg.
That massive capability can take quite a bit of taming, but Chevy has helpfully provided a raft of advanced technology to make your life easier. An available multi-colour 15-inch diagonal Head-Up Display projects the Silverado’s speed, navigation, and the available active safety alerts onto the truck’s windshield so the driver can keep their eyes firmly on the road where they belong.
Of course, trailering presents its own challenges, and this is where some of the Silverado HD’s most helpful tech comes into play. The Silverado is available with an Advanced Trailering System, a segment-first for the Silverado HD that allows the creation of customized trailer profiles that help with hitching up and towing. On top of that, the 2023 Silverado HD is also available with up to 8 cameras and up to 15 camera views that can make hitching up, backing up, or just maneuvering on the road around you more manageable than you might ever have thought possible.
The 2023 Chevrolet Silverado HD is an incredible combination of style, power, performance, and capability. It can also be as practical or opulent as you want or need it to be.
