There are many pickup trucks of all shapes and sizes on the roads of Thornhill, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, and the Greater Toronto Area, but you won’t find any like the 2024 GMC Sierra EV yet. The Sierra EV is the brand’s first foray into the world of fully electric vehicles, and what an entrance it’s set to make with stunning exterior and interior styling, superb versatility, and the capability only a full-size pickup truck can deliver.
There will be three different versions of the 2024 GMC Sierra EV produced. The first one to launch will be the range-topping Denali Edition 1, and Sierra EV AT4 and Elevation trims will follow for the 2025 model year. All models deliver superb performance and capability, and they also look sensational. The front fascia doesn’t have a traditional grille because there isn’t a hot internal combustion engine that requires cooling. But the LED backlight surround with its large backlit GMC logo instead of a grille on Denali Edition 1 models gives this impressive truck considerable presence.
The interior is also clean, premium, and futuristic, with a massive touchscreen dominating the centre of the dash. With the Denali Edition 1, that massive 16.8-inch touchscreen gets paired with an 11-inch-diagonal reconfigurable driver information centre and a multi-colour Head Up Display delivering a further 14 diagonal inches of digital info space. That’s more than 40 diagonal inches of digital displays, which comes into its own with the 14 available camera views that deliver superb visibility all around the truck.
EVs are still relatively new to most people, and fully-electric pickup trucks are even more so. It would be relatively easy to drop an electric powertrain into an existing truck, but that wouldn’t deliver the kind of capability serious truck shoppers demand and need. The 2024 GMC Sierra EV comes equipped with tons of cutting-edge tech and versatility, but it also delivers numbers that will satisfy the most seasoned truck shoppers.
The driving range on a full charge is the first thing most of us want to know with any new EV, and the Sierra EV goes above and beyond with a GM-estimated range of more than 640 km. The Sierra EV also boasts a maximum tow rating of 4,309 kg, and the maximum payload rating is around 590 kg. The truck also has the EV truck segment’s best charging capability, with an 800 Volt DC Public Fast Charging capacity at 350kW that can add 160 km of range in approximately 10 minutes.
There’s a technology for every occasion and application with the 2024 GMC Sierra EV. You’ll find plenty of tech to make driving, towing, and hauling as easy as possible. This includes five Customizable Drive Modes of Standard, Tow/Haul, Off-Road, My Mode, and Max Power that allow the driver to adjust steering, suspension, propulsion, sound, and power settings. Max Power does precisely what it suggests by delivering a 0-100 kph time of around 4.7 seconds.
However, plenty of comfort and luxury features help the Sierra EV live up to the enviable reputation of GMC pickups, especially those with the Denali designation. A panoramic fixed glass roof covers both rows of seats in the cabin to deliver an open-air ambiance and a greater sense of spaciousness throughout the interior. There are high-quality leather seats with a quilting pattern reminiscent of the Sierra EV’s bold front fascia and open-pore wood décor, complemented with aluminum accents and etched stainless steel on the speaker grilles of the premium Bose audio system.
The 2024 GMC Sierra EV delivers everything you want and need from a full-size pickup truck, but it does it while emitting nothing more than water vapour from its tailpipe.
