If there’s something you need a new SUV for in Thornhill, North York, Markham, Richmond Hill, or anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area that doesn’t include fitting into tight spaces, the 2024 GMC Yukon is more than up to the task. Whether you need to transport up to nine people around in considerable comfort, tow a substantial trailer to the campsite, or arrive in style outside the theatre for a swanky premiere, the GMC Yukon, and the even bigger GMC Yukon XL, have it covered.
It’s easy to make a case for buying a 2024 GMC Yukon or Yukon XL for their excellent passenger and cargo carrying capacities or towing capability that would have rivalled a full-size pickup truck until recently. But those are just a few things that set the Yukon apart from the competition. There may be a related model in the GM family with similar capabilities, but the Yukon takes style, comfort, luxury, and desirability to an entirely different level. You’d probably refrain from calling the 2024 Yukon a pretty vehicle, but you’d have to admit it does look pretty sensational.
As well as the five available trim levels, the 2024 GMC Yukon is also available in two wheelbase formats: the standard-length Yukon and the extended Yukon XL, which adds an extra 15 inches length behind the front doors. Even though both versions of the GMC SUV feature that simple, traditional, two-box shape associated with this type of vehicle, the Yukon and Yukon XL take the format to new levels of style, panache, and desirability. The roof line tapers in a relatively sporty way as it heads toward the integrated spoiler above the tailgate.
Three engines are available for the 2024 GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL that cover almost any application you might want a vehicle of this type to handle. The SLE, SLT, and AT4 trim levels come standard with a 5.3-litre V-8 gasoline engine that develops 355 horsepower and 383 lb.-ft. of torque. If that’s not enough for what you have in mind for your new Yukon or Yukon XL, the second powerplant is a 6.2-litre V-8 that’s an option for the AT4 and the standard unit for the Denali and Denali Ultimate.
The 6.2 puts out 420 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque, which is considerably more horsepower but the same torque rating as the final engine option. That third and final engine option is a 3.0-litre inline-six turbodiesel, and this time you get 277 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque and better fuel economy than the equally torquey gas-powered 6.2. Regardless of your chosen trim level, drivetrain, or engine, the power always gets sent to the wheels through a ten-speed automatic transmission.
The rugged, modern exterior styling of the 2024 GMC Yukon and GMC Yukon XL and its immensely imposing presence are easy for any SUV fan to love. However, capability is the primary mission of a vehicle of these proportions, and the GMC isn’t lacking in that area either. The Yukon can accommodate up to nine people in specific configurations, although most models will seat seven or eight. And the maximum towing capacity of up to 3,810 kg is enough for towing a boat or substantial trailer for weekends away with the family.
Even with all three rows of seats occupied, the 2024 Yukon still has a generous 722 litres of cargo volume behind the third row, while the cavernous Yukon XL increases that to a massive 1,175 litres. And if you’ve learned to believe that third-row seats are strictly for small children on short journeys, think again because the Yukon has more legroom back there than you’ll find in the second-row seats of some rivals. The Yukon’s third-row seats have 886 mm (34.9 inches) of legroom, while the Yukon XL goes even further with 932 mm (36.7 inches).
The 2024 GMC Yukon is at least a match for any large SUV as far as passenger and cargo capacity are concerned. But the Yukon and Yukon XL are much more than capable haulers and towing platforms. The Yukon brings different levels of comfort, style, class, luxury, and desirable presence to the segment, so check it out today with a test drive from Roy Foss Chevrolet Buick GMC Thornhill at 7200 Yonge Street, Thornhill, Ontario.
